We present you, the Power Yoga
Power Yoga is a main branch of the Hatha Yoga style, as practiced in Western society, that is close to fitness.
Power Yoga belongs to the branch of Hatha Yoga, practiced in Western culture. This more dynamic and vigorous style than other Yoga branches emphasizes the physical part of the sport, focusing on strength and flexibility. By practicing Power Yoga, we can quickly get the same physical benefits of practicing aerobic exercises. The classes have a physical structure much faster than others types of Yoga.
The term Power Yoga arose specifically to differentiate traditional idea associated with the Yoga practiced in 90´s in the USA, which was based essentially on meditation and stretching. Thus, Americans Beryl Bender Birch, in New York, and Bryan Kest, in Los Angeles, gave rise, created, almost simultaneously, this new form of Yoga, making a more active mode is similar to other forms of intense physical training, but keeping based on the teachings and principles of Yoga. The Power Yoga is a modality that perfectly combines the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of Yoga.
The postures practiced in Power Yoga are a lot faster than in traditional Yoga, marking a stronger physical pace. Some of the goals of the Power Yoga goes beyond stretching and strengthen the central part of the body, like spine and abdomen, doing the same in relation to the hips and pelvis. Although this mode focusses on construction of physical strength, using Yoga postures combined with specific movements of muscle toning, the spiritual and meditation part of Yoga are always present and are central elements of any type of Yoga, with breath work always as one of the pillars.
