The importance of preventive medicine
Delay human aging so you can achieve longer life and higher quality is the aim of preventive medicine.
Although every action of the doctors always has something of prevention, preventive medicine is a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
The main objectives of preventive medicine, which fits inside the anti-aging medicine, are to protect, promote and maintain health and well-being, preventing the emergence of physical, mental diseases, and weaknesses.
The idea is to postpone the aging process with the introduction of a healthy lifestyle, through the implementation of regular examinations, changes in eating habits, exercising and managing emotional health.
Rather than diagnose and cure health problems that arise, the preventive medicine focuses precisely in trying to prevent the development of various health problems and unnecessary deaths.
The aging of the organism, every organ starts to change, both at their own physical structure as in their performance, which are getting progressively slower.
The prevention made by this specialty is made at three levels: primary, secondary and tertiary.
The primary level is including health promotion and wellness to the general population, such as promoting physical exercise and adopting a healthy diet, or alert to the risk behaviors that endanger the health. Its goal is to decrease the incidence of diseases that typically arise with age. The nutritional education, sanitation and vaccination are examples of primary level of prevention.
At the secondary level of preventive medicine, it focusses on the underlying disease or in an attempt to prevent diseases that may already exist, but are still in an embryonic state to be revealed later, and with the least possible damage. Through early diagnosis and exams can guard or reduce the incidence of certain diseases.
The tertiary level of preventive medicine is concerned with providing the highest quality of life to a patient with a disease already installed. The attempt to minimize the symptoms and the manifestation of the disease, pain reduction and damages, and the rehabilitation of the health of individuals, so that their daily routines can be maintained, are the purpose of tertiary prevention level.
