Hours and hours with the neck in the same position, fixed to the monitors, stuck in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As soon as you feel a pain in the neck or shoulders, try applying something with extreme temperatures to the damaged zone. A cloth with cold water or a hot-water bag can be good options. Muscles will get more tense the longer the period of time that you remain in the same position. Stand up and walk a little, every hour, to relieve the stiffness of the spine. However, don’t make any sudden moves – it may cause a greater injury than standing still for several hours.
Relaxation exercises, during and after office hours, will help to prevent new injuries. Stretching and rotating your neck lightly will ensure an important reinforcement of the muscles. Regular sports will also cause muscle mass to “hold” the bones and nerves in the correct places, avoiding the appearance of unexpected pain. Smoking may also contribute to a lower regeneration of muscle tissue, and thus, a loss of motor skills that can result in injuries to tendons or ligaments.
