Health problems? Travel!
Science ensures it: travelling is the best medicine to take care of you.
Medication helps us maintain healthy levels in the event of illness, but there are other habits that promote optimal health. Travel is among them. So, you know, grab your backpack and hit the road, book a flight or study the closest map. Your health appreciates.
How do we know that travelling promotes a healthier lifestyle? For various reasons, but let’s start with this: in 2013, the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies achieved surprising conclusions regarding the relationship between well-being, health and leisure travel. Among them, we can observe that women who travel twice a year have much lower risk of dying from heart attack or develop any heart disease than those who make a trip every six years, we also know that men who don’t take vacations to travel are 20% of more likely to die within five years and 30% more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases.
This, of course, not to mention the immediate effect that the trips have on stress, lowering blood pressure to healthy levels and stimulating a more peaceful and calm life level than the regular one. This decrease in blood pressure also happens due to higher body activity: on the road, we tend to walk more and do more physical activities, which leads to a better oxygenation of the blood to each body part.
Mental health will thank you too when you travel: it happens because, in your brain is more active due to new stimuli found in cultures different than ours, also the neuronal connections are encouraged, given the requirement of creating new memories. Alzheimer’s, depression and anxiety: with a trip, we were able to push them further away.
Now that we’ve convinced you, the hard thing is to decide where to go on vacation.
