Fun and exercise: ever heard of zorbing?

Here’s a sport that is gaining more and more fans all over the globe. Learn more about zorbing.

Not many people have heard of zorbing yet, but this is a sport that is gaining more and more followers every day. Considered a recreational sport, zorbing is characterized by going down a hill inside a giant rubber ball, without losing the balance or the direction and crossing the line first, without bumping into other competitors.

The idea for this sport was born in Russia, and hamsters wheels served as inspiration: the first experienced with zorbing devices was in the 70´s, although these mechanisms include two people sitting inside.

The Zorbing name was born in 1994, when New Zealanders Dwane van der Sluis and Andrew Akers developed a company called Zorb, the same name that gave giant balls. Since then, the company (zorb.com) has been trying new ways of exploring this fun way to practice sport: there are ground and aquatic zorbs, alone or in groups, with or without harness, with seats or a completely open and free to bounce. The idea is to overcome their limits and continues to expand all over the planet. Not to mention the projects that are being developed, in which are included roller coasters made with zorbs.

There are, however, restrictions for those who want to practice this sport. The weight per individual cannot exceed 100 kilos and each practitioner must be at least eight years old.

The company already has agents in several countries, such as England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Estonia, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, North Pole, Canada, Slovenia, Thailand, India, Switzerland, Slovakia, Japan, Poland and the Czech Republic, although, they also have resellers of its services in other locations around the globe.
