Are you attached to a computer, how do we free ourselves?
A sedentary lifestyle is a very typical disease from the 21st century.
These days, especially for those working in the middle of urban mess, being eight (or more) hours on the computer it is a normal, ordinary, common act. However, if we had a magic lamp, we would ask the genie to free us forever to be shackled to this lifestyle. Once the lamp genius is a product of imagination, we have to deal with what we have. So, here’s five suggestions to avoid sedentary life.
For your health: get up!
Sitting more than five hours straight is the equivalent for the human body to have smoke a pack of cigarettes in one go. So, set the timer on your cellphone, every 20 minutes, you have to get on your feet and as far as possible, take a few steps so that your muscles do not atrophy and heart rate do not let the blood stagnate and cause more severe cases, clots. People who work sitting for 11 hours or more see their risk of premature death increase by about 40 percent.
Do not work in the same place
Ideally, we should change work place several times a day. Not only by the movement that change entails, but also because a new space makes us take a new position and, undeniably, a new mindset in the creative process or in the kind of labor being developed.
When a desk is not enough
Taking the risk of looking eccentric to your co-workers, here’s a hint: grab a chair or a pile of books and put them on your desk. Over them, the monitor/laptop. Now stand up and try to work in that position. Your spine and your heart will both be very grateful.
Physical exercise: a more than established magical formula
Whenever you can, exercise, especially before or after working time. This will prepare and strengthen your muscles for the violence that is to stay in the same position for hours and hours at a time. If you exercise before, you will be prepared for the day that is coming; if, however, you choose to play sports after the working day, you’ll release all the tension and stress that’s stuck in your muscles. It’s your choice; and if you prefer and have the possibility you can work out on both occasions.
Know your sitting place
It is not uncommon that the chairs where we sit is appropriate to our good posture. However, talk to your superiors and show them that it is imperative that the office has comfortable chairs and that do not cause back pain to workers. While new seats do not arrive, do not hesitate to massage your own shoulders and neck in order to release accumulated toxins and tension caused by the stress of daily routines.
