The best swings can be held in this corner of the old continent. Portugal has some of the best golf courses in Europe and we will show them to you, one by one.

Monte Rei

The Monte Rei Golf & Country Club is considered the best place to play golf in Portugal. Located in Vila Nova de Cacela, Algarve, it opened in 2007 and has 18 holes, 11 of which have water. Its natural beauty, where the bunkers merge with the landscape, making it unique.

Oitavos

Further north, in Cascais, we find Oitavos Dunes. After years of careful planning, the golf course finally opened to players 2010 fall season and has an amazing view over the mountains of Sintra and the Atlantic Ocean.

Oceânico Old

This 18-hole course is located in the heart of the country lane of Vilamoura, just 20 minutes away from Faro airport. Open since 1969, it looks like it was yesterday, as renewed and well maintained as it is. You must try it!

San Lorenzo

Also in Algarve, on Almancil to be precise, San Lorenzo Golf Course is one of the most acclaimed greens, either by Portuguese as by foreign players. It was inaugurated in 1998 and it has 18 holes which can grant a huge challenge to any golfer. As background, it has the great sight of Quinta do Lago.

Praia D’El Rey

Part of a tourist complex, D’El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort is in Obidos, close to the Atlantic Ocean, a place where you can feel and scent the sea breeze.

Tróia

The Tróia Golf Championship Course fits perfectly between the Sado Estuary and the Arrábida Mountain, a location that gives it a unique atmosphere. In 2011 it was considered by Rolex one of the world’s best golf courses.

Quinta de Cima

Half an hour from Faro airport, Ria & Cima Golf Courses is another one of the greens which gathers the positive general opinion of golfers. An amazing field inserted in the Ria Formosa, with 18 holes and five lakes strategically placed.

Furnas

Now towards the islands: inside the Azores Golf Island, the Furnas field was initially built in 1936, with only nine holes then, and gradually expanded to reach the current 18 in 1992. Even better is its location, right beside a tableland in the most beautiful landscape of the Furnas.

Porto Santo

Last but not least, Madeira. On the quiet island of the archipelago, lies Porto Santo Golfe, also with 18 holes and a total length of 6383 meters. Oh, and of course, the ocean always plays here – as an astonishing scenery.
